RIP puppy Tiger

Does anyone believe that a dog will have tiger stripes?

For some reason, little puppies sold on the street are often dyed to look like a tiger, for they can be sold for 50-100 RMB each. Many people who buy them on the street know that these dogs will not live long, as they have not been well fed to start with and are not vaccinated. Worst still, vendors often give them shots or cough syrup to make them appear active. These are the so called "1 week dog", as most buyers buy them for fun, not expecting them to live long anyway.

Adele found Tiger right next to a trash can on May 4, 2014. Little Tiger was only a little bit more than a month old then, so Adele took her to the hospital and found that she was healthy. Someone must have dumped her out when she lived longer than expected and/or when the buyer realized that to take care of a companion animal requires to be responsible.

Adele asked many doctors to hopefully get rid of those ugly stripes. But knowing that the cheap chemical that was used to dye her may cause skin problems when washed, she decided to wait until Tiger was bigger and stronger.

Tiger was a happy dog that loved to play like any puppy her age. She grew bigger and eventually got her first vaccination. When everyone was thinking that she was ready for adoption and to move on with her happy life, Tiger had a sudden case of diarrhea and passed away the following day. This probably happened because she had bad nutrition when young and was dyed with toxic chemicals. On May 29, Tiger did not make it pass her 3 month birthday, her short life ended very fast and with great sadness for all the people who knew of her case.

An expat friend who knew about Tiger's story was puzzled on how this can happen here in Shanghai. She created the banner to remember Tiger, hoping that everyone here can treasure all lives (human and animal) and think adoption first, not buy. Buying pets only encourage more irresponsible breeding and animal suffering.

Tiger, RIP, your short life here will not be meaningless.
